The Licuala Grandis Fan Palm is a majestic plant because of its huge leaves that feel somewhat like cardboard.
It is a tropical fan palm. That is what the Licuala grandis is very well known for.
It loves a sunny spot and gives a beautiful look! The shame is that it can get brown leaf edges, but that in itself gives off the feeling of the real tropics.
Truly a beautiful tropical palm tree for the collector.
This palm can be in the office as well as in the living room. It can also be placed in a subtropical swimming pool.

Note, important!
Deze plant staat in onze partner privekas en kan helaas niet particulier bezocht worden.
We always recommend to immediately repot a purchased plant into a larger sized pot, because the pots sold are usually completely rooted. It allows the plant to root more, grow more and it's better for keeping the soil moist.
Most often the plant is around the minimum size. The height of the plant is always incl. pot height. Its actual height depends on the various sources of supply and how long the plant has been staying and growing in our stock environment.
All interesting and necessary information about the Licuala grandis is found in our encyclopedia
Watering
This plant should be watered regularly. During sunny periods, we recommend watering every day. During less sunny periods, we recommend once every 3 days unless it has rained.
Placement
This plant should be placed in a place with lots of sunshine. The more sun, the faster the growth, but also the more moisture it needs.
Nutrition
Nutrition is very important for plants. We recommend you provide this plant with a good nutrient medium by using high quality Mediterranean soil. We also recommend additional nutrients. Mediterranean food tablets, which you simply press into the soil next to the plant. This ensures the supply of all necessary nutrients. The plant will then also retain its dark green leaf color.
Cutting
Pruning a palm is simple. When a leaf starts to go dry the fairly thick branch should be cut off close to the trunk using a pair of secateurs. The palm grows new shoots every year which grow into large fan leaves.

A plant with a nice pot enhances the atmosphere much more and becomes more beautiful than without one. Of course the pot should match the plant and location. The recommended diameter of a pot for this Licuala grandis is 58 - 100 cm. This is not only an eye-pleasing proportion, but also makes caring for the plant more easy.

Pruning a palm is simple. When a leaf starts to go dry the fairly thick branch should be cut off close to the trunk using a pair of secateurs. The palm grows new shoots every year which grow into large fan leaves.
.
The growth rate depends on the age of the plant and the environment (soil, light hours, etc.). The Licuala will never grow very fast because it does not grow much taller than 2 meters. Count on about 20cm per year during its peak period.
How tall will the Licuala grandis grow?
.
The Licuala grandis is not a big grower, in fact it does not get higher than 2. Beyond that is an exception.
Licuala grandis, how often to water?
.
During the winter period in the cold, a Licuala can go a week without water, and then it should not get too much even. But the warmer the weather and the more sunlight, the more water it needs. During the hottest days, a Licuala grandis may need to be soaked as much as 2x in a day.
The Licuala grandis, when to prune?
.
Throughout the year the leaves of the Licuala grandis can become arid. Once they are too dry to make the palm look beautiful, they can be cut off at the trunk with pruning shears. This way the Licuala grandis forms its trunk.
Our plant sizes are determined by measuring the smallest plants up until the largest in a field with hundreds of plants. Because a plant is a natural product, it's possible a plant is a little smaller than the mentioned minimum size.
This deviation is 10cm maximum. In our guidelines we keep a margin of max. 10cm regarding the minimum size.
Note: when you order a plant that doesn't stay green in the winter, it's probably (when ordered during the winter months or the beginning spring season) smaller than the minimum size. This is not a problem in any case, because the plant will grow new branches or leaves and the minimum height will be reached within a short period. Your order will have the right size within a short time.
Special transport is required for larger/heavier plants or objects. This transport costs 29,95 (free for orders above 300). The benefit of this transport is that more products can be selected without getting additional transport costs. The delivery time of this transport type usually is within 1 workday. Howiever, it can take 1 or more days in some cases. If you're not at home when the driver arrives, the order will be placed in front of your door.
