The Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey' - Fig Tree

Ficus Carica (Brown Turkey), also called fig tree, can be kept in the open ground.

It is even better suited to our climate than the traditional variety.

Its fruits are deliciously sweet and can be eaten. They ripen slightly earlier than the common fig, namely in August/September.

The leaves of the fig tree are very interesting to see and have a tropical look. Figs are best kept in the open ground, but would also be fine in a tub. Pruning of the fig tree should be done in early spring. Then the dead ends should be pruned to one node.
A fig tree is bare in winter.
