Ficus Carica (Brown Turkey), also called fig tree, can be kept in the open ground.
It is even better suited to our climate than the traditional variety.
Its fruits have a deliciously sweet taste and can be eaten. These ripen slightly earlier than the common fig, namely in August/September.
The leaf of the fig tree is very interesting to see and has a tropical look. Figs are best kept in the open ground, but would also do fine in a tub. Pruning of the fig tree should be done in early spring. Then the dead tips should be pruned away to one node.
A fig tree is bare in winter.
