The Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey' - Fig tree

The Ficus Carica (Brown Turkey), also called fig tree, can be kept outdoors.

It is even better suited to our climate than the traditional variety.

Its fruits have a deliciously sweet taste and can be eaten. They ripen a little earlier than the common fig, namely in August/September.

The leaf of the fig tree is very interesting to see and has a tropical appearance. Figs are best kept in the open ground, but could also be kept in a tub. Pruning of the fig tree should be done in early spring, when the dead spots should be pruned to one knot.
