Note, important!
During the winter, plants in very dry soil can suffer from red spider mite. To prevent this, you can regularly spray the leaves with a mist sprayer and always keep the potting soil slightly moist.
Plants you buy in the garden center or flower store come from the nursery where these tub plants are grown under ideal conditions. In living rooms, the humidity is usually much lower, which can cause the plants to drop their flowers. Place a tub of water under the purchased plants that you put in the living room to increase the humidity around the plant. Also, place the plants far from doors and windows that cause regular drafts. Also, our bougainvilleas are kept outside (frost free), this can cause them to be bare in the winter months ( this will quickly return if it is placed inside or outside in the spring).

We always recommend to immediately repot a purchased plant into a larger sized pot, because the pots sold are usually completely rooted. It allows the plant to root more, grow more and it's better for keeping the soil moist.

Most often the plant is around the minimum size. The height of the plant is always incl. pot height. Its actual height depends on the various sources of supply and how long the plant has been staying and growing in our stock environment.

Let your plant shine

A plant with a nice pot enhances the atmosphere much more and becomes more beautiful than without one. Of course the pot should match the plant and location. The recommended diameter of a pot for this Bougainvillea is 22 - 28 cm. This is not only an eye-pleasing proportion, but also makes caring for the plant more easy.

Pay attention

Watering

The plant is thirsty and needs water almost daily in summer. At the same time, Bougainvillea hates 'wet feet', so make sure that excess water can drain from the pot. In the fall, the water needs - especially from October onwards - depend heavily on the weather conditions. In warm, sunny weather you can still water a few times a week, but if it is cold, the plant only needs moderate watering.

Placement

This tropical ornamental plant likes a sheltered and warm, sunny place and that in a well-drained tub or pot on the terrace, balcony or in the conservatory.

Nutrition

Fertilize monthly with manure of high calcium and low nitrogen content through the irrigation water. Potassium to get more blooms and low nitrogen to prevent too lush leaf growth and little blooms.

Cutting

Pruning is allowed but not really necessary. The plants flower on the shoots they form during the growing season and may therefore be pruned after flowering to save space in winter storage. When the plant has finished flowering you may prune to within two eyes of the newly formed wood taking into account the desired shape. Branches that are too long can be pruned deeper with the hope that they will sprout again on dormant eyes.

The roots of the Bougainvillea are very sensitive, and therefore not very invasive. They adapt more than they intrude. Where should I buy a Bougainvillea?

To this question we have a very simple answer. Teeninga Palms is a specialist in the field of hardy Mediterranean plants and trees, and offers them for the lowest price and the highest quality, so the choice is easy!

Our plant sizes are determined by measuring the smallest plants up until the largest in a field with hundreds of plants. Because a plant is a natural product, it's possible a plant is a little smaller than the mentioned minimum size.

This deviation is 10cm maximum. In our guidelines we keep a margin of max. 10cm regarding the minimum size.

Note: when you order a plant that doesn't stay green in the winter, it's probably (when ordered during the winter months or the beginning spring season) smaller than the minimum size. This is not a problem in any case, because the plant will grow new branches or leaves and the minimum height will be reached within a short period. Your order will have the right size within a short time.

Special transport is required for larger/heavier plants or objects. This transport costs 29,95 (free for orders above 300). The benefit of this transport is that more products can be selected without getting additional transport costs. The delivery time of this transport type usually is within 1 workday. Howiever, it can take 1 or more days in some cases. If you're not at home when the driver arrives, the order will be placed in front of your door.
