The Areca Catechu dwarf is a descendant of the betel palm tree.
Its colours are darker than ordinary betel palm trees.

It is found in Southeast Asia, from Malaysia to the Solomon Islands. And the fruits are dark yellow to red, 2.5-4 cm long, ovoid and carried in hanging bunches. The fruit resembles a small coconut.

The inflorescence appears under the crown shaft in protruding panicles 60 cm long and bears male and female flowers. The flowers are small, scented and white-yellow.

The Areca Catechu (betel palm) is a graceful Indonesian palm with a slender trunk and a pinnate, sideways protruding leaf. On the Areca Catechu grow betelnuts (also called 'arecanuts').

It is a palm that cannot withstand frost and must therefore be kept indoors.
